Fashion Production in Spain: Mister Zimi at La Muralla Roja & Ibiza
For Mister Zimi’s new Aperitivo collection, Spain provided exactly the kind of colour, architecture and Mediterranean atmosphere the campaign needed.
TAN TAN handled the local production service in Spain for the shoot, which took us from the extraordinary geometry of La Muralla Roja in Calpe to locations in Ibiza. Mister Zimi describes Aperitivo as a collection built around long afternoons, sunset shades and the transition from day into evening, a natural fit for a campaign shot against the Mediterranean.
Shooting a fashion campaign at La Muralla Roja
Few locations in Spain are as instantly recognisable as La Muralla Roja. Designed by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura and completed in 1973, the residential complex sits on the cliffs of Calpe on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Its maze of staircases, courtyards and intensely coloured walls was inspired in part by the architectural language of the Mediterranean kasbah.
For fashion photography and film, the location gives you something unusual: architecture that already behaves almost like a piece of production design. Pinks, reds and blues shift dramatically depending on the angle and the time of day, while the geometric stairways, openings and terraces offer multiple distinct setups within the same location. For a collection as colourful as Aperitivo, it made an incredible backdrop.
From Calpe to Ibiza
The production also continued in Ibiza, giving the campaign a second visual language. Where La Muralla Roja brought bold architectural geometry, Ibiza brought a softer Mediterranean feeling — natural light and the relaxed atmosphere associated with the island. Being able to combine very different locations within Spain is one of the reasons international fashion and advertising productions increasingly look here. Within a relatively compact territory, productions can move between iconic architecture, beaches, Mediterranean houses, historic towns, rugged coastline and contemporary villas without needing to build those worlds artificially.
